Why this exists

Most associations run on three or four systems that do not know about each other: a membership list in a spreadsheet, dues in an accounting package, a website somebody else quotes for, and a conference arranged by email. The work is not the software. The work is keeping all of it agreeing.

It came out of doing the job

Chartermarks is built by Red Barn Software, who have spent years building and running the individual pieces for trade associations and the companies that belong to them — membership records, compliance and credential tracking, event platforms, public sites.

The same problem turned up every time. Each piece was fine on its own, and the seams between them were where the hours went: a fleet count corrected in one place and wrong on the invoice, a renewal answered and never carried onto the record, a website that had to be told separately about everything the association already knew.

This is that problem taken seriously rather than worked around. One record, and the invoice, the renewal form, the directory and the conference program all read from it.

What it is not

It is not an association management system with a website bolted to the side, and it is not a website builder that learned to take a payment. It does not model the operational data of an association's members — driver rosters, credentials, compliance — because that is a different product with different obligations.

Who you deal with

A small team, which is the trade-off: you will speak to somebody who has built the thing you are asking about, and there is no account manager between you.
